| Introduction :
||Regional Services constitute the field operation side of AIOU covering two major streams namely Tutorial Support Services and Student Support Services. Tutorial Support Services comprises of supervision of academic guidance, tutorials organization of face-to-face teaching and training, conduct of workshops for all Teacher Education and Postgraduate programmes, overseeing the conduct of Examinations and keeping liaison with local educational authorities while Student Support Services consists of catering to the needs and provision of adequate information about AIOU academic programmes to aspiring applicants, Admission forms, programme announcements, counseling and advising on preferable fields of study and catering to the complaints and inquiries during the semester. To ensure strength based on better resource utilization, effective management and emerging aspirations of the people all over the country towards education at their door-steps, augmentation/upgrading of services at the regional campuses and provision of more resources in remote areas are essential, which to a great extent have been provided.
Responsibilities of Regional Services.
The main responsibilities of Regional Services include the following:
� To provide tutorial support to AIOU students spread in all parts of the country at the same time by:
� Publicity of AIOU Academic Programmes and sale of Admission Forms.
� Motivation through promotional material i.e. Banners, Posters, Handbills, letters to Heads of Institutions etc.
� Making tutors appointments and allocation of students for each course.
� Establishing study centres not only in the premises of formal institutions as well as at AIOU�s own offices.
� Arranging workshops for all Teacher Education Programmes i.e. PTC/CT/ATTC and B.ED.
� Conducting workshops for all Postgraduate Programmes at the end of each semester.
� Identifying Institutions and Supervisory Staff for End Semester Examinations.
� Collection and dispatch of Continuous Assessment Results (Assignment Cumulative Results) to Examinations Departments.
� Organizing Student Extra Curricular Activities in the Regions.
� Celebrating National events in the light of Government instructions.
� Providing Financial Assistance to the needy students.
� Monitoring of Tutorial Support and Examination Centres.
� Last but not least to keep close liaison with the local educational authorities for utilizing their services for uplift of educational facilities in the country.
The range of services provided by the regions covers all programmes from functional through secondary, intermediate and degree up to PhD levels. It includes general, professional and technical fields of pursuit opted by the learners � male, female, rural or urban alike. It is active pursuit of the Regional Directors at these levels that has contributed significantly to AIOU�s credib
